HISTORY
The Sint Maarten Telecommunications Group of Companies serves as an important pillar to the St. Maarten economy, providing a vital global link to one of the most cosmopolitan islands in the Caribbean.
Telem Group of Companies is the proud incumbent telecommunications provider on the Dutch Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten.
TelEm, the local service provider; TelCell N.V., the island’s premier digital mobile service provider; TelNet Communications N.V., the Island’s main Internet Service Provider; and SMITCOMS N.V. the international service provider, are jointly operating as the Telem Group of Companies, with the shareholder being the Island Territory of Sint Maarten.
Until a structural change in 2007, TelEm was the parent company of two subsidiary companies, TelCell N.V. and TelNet Communications N.V. SMITCOMS N.V., the international service provider remained an associate company until more structural changes could be put into effect.
TelEm entered the year 2008 with a renewed focus on merging a new corporate structure resulting from the formation of a Holding Company (The Sint Maarten Telecommunication Holding Company N.V.) and the formation of an Operating company (The Sint Maarten Telecommunication Operating Company N.V.)
Later in that year TelNet was merged into TelEm while TelEm, TelCell and Smitcoms N.V. implemented a “soft” merger as a joint brand under the name TelEm Group of Companies.
Services provided by the Telem Group of Companies include a full range of Fixed, Mobile, International telephony services, Local and International data services.
